چکیده

Host resistance to the Reniform Nematode (RN), Rotylenchulus reniformis Lindford and Oliveira, has been identified in diploid cottons Gossypium arboreum, G. herbaceum, and G. longicalyx (Stewart and Robbins, 1 ). Histological studies have identified two possible mechanisms of resistance: first, a darkened, necrotic syncytial cavity occurs (hypersensitive reaction); and second, a less frequent mechanism may occur that consists of the absence of hypertrophy of the syncytial cells. In this case the female reaches maturity but has reduced fecundity (Carter, 1 1; Agudelo et al., 00 ). The objectives of this study were to describe cotton root gene responses to reniform nematode infection in resistant and susceptible accessions, and to identify potential genes involved in feeding site formation and resistance reactions.

Histological Changes in Gossypium hirsutum Associated with Reduced Reproduction of Rotylenchulus reniformis.

The reniform nematode (Rotylenchulus reniformis) is an important parasite of upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum). Parasitism involves the formation of syncytia to provide nutrition for the female. Events that occur at the feeding site may determine the degree of susceptibility of cotton plants to reniform nematode. The objective of this work was to describe histological modifications associated ...

Host Response to Reniform Nematode Infection in Resistant and Susceptible Gossypium arboreum Accessions

The reniform nematode (RN), Rotylenchulus reniformis Lindford and Oliveira, is a serious threat to cotton production. In fields infested with RN, yield losses are estimated at 0 to kg/ha (Robinson, 001). Genetic resistance to RN has not been reported for any commercial cultivar of cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) (Robinson et al., 00 ); however, it has been found in G. arboreum (Stewart and Robbi...

1787 Nematode Management using Remote Sensing Technology, Self-Organized Maps and Variable Rate Nematicide Applications

Remote sensing technology is being examined as a field worthy means for predicting reniform nematode population densities in the cotton rhizosphere using hyperspectral reflectance data and self-organized maps. Our objectives were to determine 1) the hyperspectral reflectance of cotton plants affected by different reniform nematode population levels in controlled microplot tests and in fields na...

Host suitability in soybean cultivars for the reniform nematode, 2000 tests.

In greenhouse pot experiments during summer 2000, 118 soybean cultivars were tested to determine their suitability as hosts for the reniform nematode, Rotylenchulus reniformis. The cultivars included 115 new entries into the Arkansas and Mississippi soybean variety testing programs and three entries submitted by an extension nematologist from Texas. Also included in the tests were the R. renifo...
